SNOW!

Well, I don't have photos of the snow....yet! But there is one happy little boy that is loving our cold weather! Of course it's Demon!! We have been hit with a bunch of cold weather and snow. Demon loves helping us get out the ice in his water bucket every morning so he can drag it around the yard and snack on it all day. We have also been taking him out for walks in the snow and he's loving running and playing around! I think I like the snow because it keeps him busy most of the day, other than constantly taking out the carpet in his crate he's been pretty good! I think that with the cold weather his furlongs are getting longer and longer each morning!

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving holiday our family choose to enjoy the holiday without stress. We decided to not take a long trip down to our Grandparents house. We also made the meal smaller than some people probably would have liked. With a lot of us trying to watch what we are eating we did not feel it was necessary to have so many dishes, not to mention the clean up after. It was a nice relaxing dinner and dessert and everybody enjoyed the meal and did not have any complaints.....amazing! We were also able to get some photos done, something that we haven't done for probably 5 years. Yeah, we are bad!!!

Escape Artist

Sure, he may look cute but after what he's done this week it's been hard to see him as cute and adorable.

Our little escape artist dug a hole under the fence (again) removing two big cement blocks and digging his way underneath the fence. When I went out to go put the dirt back I realized that there were two blue eyes staring at me....on the wrong side of the fence. With him, he brought sticks and twigs from the other side. He went straight to his pen until his dad came home!

The next day he decided to jump on top of his pen into the neighbors yard. I was lucky I caught him before we left for a couple of hours. Again, he spent the remainder of the day in his pen. Last night we were out in the cold whether putting fences up to block every way which we know of he is getting out. I'm hoping that he will find something else to do rather than escaping every time somebody turns their back.

This morning when I went to let him out of his pen he was looking very closely at the fences. I'm sure he was trying to figure out a way to either jump over the fences or go under them. He is such a DEMON!

What's Been Going On.....

This week I am headed into my first round of finals: Foundations of Math A, U.S. Government A, and English 12 A. I also have a paper to write for English this week, which I'm not too thrilled about that! After that I will be starting the second round of Math, U.S. Government, and English.

Mom is back in school and student teaching, so Jordann and Whitney are home with me all day Tuesday's and Thursday's. That is always fun! Jordann is usually pretty quite, until she is done with school then she decides that being goofy is the best way to irritate me and she know that it works! Whitney likes to test my patients when we do her science....always looking at me for the answers. Her favorite saying is to come up to me and say "I'm bored." Of course if you mention dinner or chores both her and Jordann are a mile away!

Megan is FINALLY back in school. She had an extra month off from school and she thought it was pretty funny to annoy us. Now, the tables are turned and we are laughing at her because she is in school, too! She is currently majoring in becoming a history teacher.

Last Friday we took Demon to the park and let's just say I don't think he will be going any time soon! :) He decided to go for a swim in the pond and drag us through the park so he could see everything. Demon also thought the rose bushes at the park were his and I could tell he was trying to figure how to uproot them! We had to drive home with a wet dog and he wanted to sit on my lap! I tried to get him on Whitney's but neither of them were having any of it. And you would think that this outing would wear him out....ha! NOT! When he came home he was as wild as ever. I think that darn dog is ADD.

That Darn Dog

This week Demon decided to dig himself out of the yard so he could chase down the squirrel that has been teasing him in the tree behind the fence. We were lucky that somebody who recognized him came to the door. But who had to answer the door? Yeah, that was me.....nothing like being embarrassed when he just gives you the blues eyes and the look is saying "what?". So now I am dog sitting while doing my schoolwork. Fun!

Back to School

It's hard to believe that this is my second week back in school! The summer seemed to breeze by. The summer was not what anyone was expecting. We spent a lot of our time in the hospital with my grandfather who fell ill during the summer. The interesting thing is that when somebody is very sick you get to meet family members who you have never seen or don't remember seeing. One family member in particular was getting to meet my Great Uncle Fred. Uncle Fred was fun to be around because he giggles all the time! If you ask him where he wants to sit he will giggle and say "yeah"! He also says that he is going to by himself a truck so he can drive. While he was here, he locked himself in a closet (at 3 AM) and screamed "Help, somebody get me out of here." The next day nobody was allowing him to take a nap!

On top of being in the hospitals constantly over the summer, I also volunteered at another hospital and put together nursing orientation notebooks, filed and made charts in the medical records office, and the most exciting thing was being able to meet elderly and younger people who just need somebody to talk to.

Last week I started my senior year of high school! My first three classes for the next 9 weeks will be : English 12 A, U.S. Government A, and Basic Math A. So far it isn't too bad. Although I did have to read Beowulf my first week of English. I don't know why I'm complaining considering I received a 96% on the final test. For Government I studied how to require a U.S. citizenship. For math I was working on place value.

This week I will be working on addition for math, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence for Government, and Chaucer and Canterbury Tales for English. Should be fun!

Happy Birthday.......

Today is Mom's 41st birthday! She does not like to celebrate her birthday because she believes she is still 29!! Today she is planning on making a German Chocolate Cake, the same one that her grandmother always had in her house. When she was looking for the recipe she found that it was on the Baker's German Chocolate box! I guess it's not a top secret recipe!

Waffles & Hobbs

There has been a lot going on this summer, even though there are days when I feel like the days are dragging and wondering if the clocks on the wall are actually working at all. Most of my days, however, seem to be flying by and I know that school is starting in August. I know that it will come sooner than I want!!!

A couple of weeks ago mom made Gingerbread Waffles. There were great....and simple! We even took photos of the delicious waffles. Once the pictures were taken they were devoured.

Meanwhile, Megan's cat, Hobbs is going to be causing lots of problems for the plants and vegetables we are attempting to grow. Today I caught him laying on top of the cups we planted outside.




Gingerbread Waffles Recipe:

Start with a waffle mix and reduce liquid to 1 Cup. Add 1/2 Cup molasses, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, and 4 Tablespoons brown sugar.

Wings

Over the past couple of days I picked up a book titled "Wings." This book was not something that I would probably read, except Megan and Mom seemed to enjoy it a lot. So, I wanted to see what it was about....and if it really was that good.

Wings was about a girl named Laurel. The book follows Laurel as she moves to a different community and making new friends. Laurel had been homeschooling her whole life and wants to continue but her mom does not feel she can continue educating her and give her a good education. Laurel meets David and together they spend lots of time together. When something appears to be growing out of her back she only tells David.

This book is somewhat similar to the Twilight series. Unlike Bella in Twilight, Laurel has a bit of an attitude. I will probably not read this book again, but this is a story that can be remembered for a long time.

Summer Enjoyment

Over the summer we have been enjoying the sitcom series I Love Lucy. Surprisingly Whitney and Jordann are enjoying watching, after all it is in black and white. Jordann already knows that it runs from 9 - 12 on the weekdays. Megan was really shocked that Jordann has spent that much time watching T.V. in the morning. I, however, am not too shocked.....Jordann likes her T.V.! I can hear both Megan and Jordann laughing hysterically from upstairs and even at the backdoor outside. Whitney is more quite, like Mom and I.

Besides watching I Love Lucy for the summer, I began my summer volunteering at the West Valley Medical Center hospital. It's already off to a busy start for me, I will be gone every day next week. Two of those days are guitar days.

Mansfield Park

Instead of going to bed last night, I finished Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Although it was a long book, it was something that I will never forget.

Mansfield Park is about 18-year old Fanny Price. Fanny moves in with her aunt and uncle when her family can no longer afford all of their children. Fanny is shy and never voices her opinions except to her one trusted friend and cousin: Edmund. Interestingly, Fanny is the main character but Austen talks more about the other characters so readers can understand how out of place she feels. Fanny falls in love, but he wants to marry a girl with no manners. Fanny has an admirer who she knows she could never love. When she rejects her admirer she is sent to live with her parents for 3 months in the hopes that she will change her mind. But when her admirer runs off with another woman her uncle sees how much Fanny knew about this man that she refused to tell everybody.

Summer!

Well, that's what some individuals are doing this summer vacation! On the other hand, others are completely bored not wanting to do anything! I am still adjusting to having no school work and leading a very slow life right now! I've been spending most of my time reading and cleaning house. I am almost finished with Manfield Park. My next selections will be Inkheart and Persuasion.

Demon, on the other hand, has been watching us turn on the water. So this morning Demon decided to turn on the house water and start digging a hole to China. He may be cute, but he can cause quite a bit of trouble! He also was able to get himself stuck in the fence for the trees. I'm not sure if he knows, but they are not a playpen for him! Luckily this did not happen while the fence was around the tree, otherwise there would be no tree left!

Summer Almost Here

It has finally started warming up here. I'm hoping it will continue to stay warm.

I had my first final on Friday and received an 80. I'm still waiting on the official grade, but I'm not concerned with the grade. I will have my Health final this Friday and then I will be done! Summer will official begin for me!!!!!! Mom's already done with school. I still don't think it's very fair that I started school before her and had less of a holiday break. Jordann and Whitney I guess are on summer break....I never know, they make up their own vacations! Megan doesn't get out of class until June and she is crazy enough to take summer classes! I hope she enjoys working hard on her classes while I'm locked out of the school website!!!!!! I am excited that next year will be my final year of high school!

Mother's Day

This Mother's Day we had our grandparents over for the day for dinner and dessert. I would have posted the pictures of dinner, but once it hits the table, it's gone. Jordann was instructed by Megan to make a card and give her the gifts. One problem: nobody knew what "we" were giving to Mom because Megan went shopping by herself. So once Jordann made the card, Megan made sure her name was the biggest on the card! Jordann wasn't too thrilled about that! Oh, the drama!!!!!! I made sure to stay in the kitchen and cook dinner!

Oh, and for dinner we had:

The only thing we didn't have leftovers was the chicken roll-ups. The next thing I expect to be gone: Frog's Eye Salad. I think Jordann and Whitney are already on their 2nd serving for the day!

What's Going on.....

Mom has been busy this week and over the weekend getting ready for her finals. She will be done next week! I'm excited that she will now have goofy Jordann and bossy Whitney to watch!!!!! Of course, she will probably find some way to make sure I will have days I have to watch them:). Whitney is excited to have mom home, especially on Tuesdays. She despises having to go to guitar practice with Jordann and I. I don't know what I'll do without her staring at me for the whole hour!!!! Although, I think she secretly enjoys listening to Jordann be sarcastic to our teacher because she seems to be copying Jordann.

I will have my biology B final next week and then a week later I will have my health final. I'm excited that I will have a whole summer off! I just hope that it starts warming up. It looks like we are not going to be having a hot summer, although that may be a good thing if Demon keeps chewing the A.C. wire outside! A few days of no air teaches you how lucky you are to have air!

Speaking of Demon......he's not too happy with the weather constantly changing either. He gets quite mad when we take the pool away because of the rain. We have noticed that the older he gets, the more and more he "talks" (howls) at us.

Spring Break

While it was snowing, raining, and freezing here I was in the warm heat in Phoenix for spring break. Everyone execpt my dad went with our grandma. While it was nice to get away (and be in the warm weather) it was not at all what we had planned. Megan and Whitney became sick over vacation, so we didn't do a whole lot! The day after we came back from vacation, Jordann became sick!!!

We went through the Hoover Dam twice and twice we got caught up in traffic. On the way down it wasn't bad, but on the way back we were stuck there for 1 1/2 hours and it took a whole tank of gas! We had plenty of time to goof off in the car. Those of us who were in the back watched The Princess Diaries 2 and we were still not all the way through the Hoover Dam.

Megan was thrilled to visit a Super Target. It's pretty bad that she took vacation off from work at Target to go to a Super Target!

After our vacation in Pheonix, it was back to school for everyone. Not exactly what anyone of us were looking forward to! It was especially hard to come back to the cold weather!

A Raisin in the Sun

One thing I detest about English class: After you finish a book you have to write a review or something about it. The book was OK, but I can't wait to finish this class (Friday) so that I can send this book off to the main office and not have it staring at me in the face on the computer desk.

Book Review for A Raisin in the Sun

I recently read a play called A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry and published by Vintage. The main theme of the play is the value and purpose of each character’s dream.
In A Raisin in the Sun the setting is between 1945 and 1959 in Chicago. In this play, the major plot is about a working-class black family struggling to survive economic hardships and racial prejudice. The family in this play are having to live in a small apartment and take any jobs they possibly can to pay their rent.
The play follows the Younger family through their struggles. Mama is the caretaker. Ruth is a loving mother and wife struggling in her marriage to Walter. Walter is a dreamer, he is Mama’s son. Beneatha is Mama’s educated daughter who dreams of becoming a doctor. Travis is Walter and Ruth’s son who loves to escape all work to be done around the house. When Beneatha speaks about her dreams of becoming a doctor, she expects her family and friends to support her, “I am going to be a doctor and everybody around here better understand that!” Although she seems harsh on her family, I believe she is this way because she wants to become a doctor so bad, but she knows it’s impossible without support from those who she loves.
As the family struggles with racial discrimination, they find that it’s important to stay close as a family and always love each other. Mama says it best in the play, “There is always something left to love. And if you ain’t learned that, you ain’t learned nothing.” This quote is when Mama gives one of her inspirational talks to her daughter. Walter faces the struggle of dealing with racial intolerance. At times he may not make the best decisions. However, when he finally comes face-to-face with the discriminator, he doesn’t back down. “And we have decided to move into our house because my father—my father—he earned it brick by brick.” Walter becomes the hero of the family for standing up for what is right.
Lorraine Hansberry wrote A Raisin in the Sun because it was about her life growing up. Lorraine and her family were based in Chicago and moved to a white community until forced by the government to move. Hansberry wanted to create uniqueness to ordinary people. She believed there were no dramatically uninteresting characters. What’s amazing with her writing style in A Raisin in the Sun is much of the character’s actions are things that soon happened after her death. Lorraine died at a young age from cancer; she continued to write to her dying day.
A Raisin in the Sun gives everybody an idea of what it was like to live in Chicago as a black family. This play describes what life was like between 1945 and 1959. You get a good understanding what racial intolerance was like in Chicago during this time if you read or watch the play.
As a reader, I would definitely encourage many people to read this play. In A Raisin in the Sun Lorraine Hansberry lets readers understand through her writing what life was really like in a black family. You also get a better understanding of how each member of the family dealt with racial discrimination.

The last paragraph is all about ending on a good note to get a better grade!

The bad news about the paper: I'm still waiting for a grade. Something to look forward to: It's spring break next week and I will have a whole week off!!!!!

Hockey Game

Over the weekend we went to a hockey game. Whitney is in love with this sport right now! It was a great game, too. In the first period there was a fight with fist fighting and all that. In the second period they had another fight and blood was spilled on the ice. They had to come and clean it up before the game resumed. The last period was a bit boring, probably because nobody scored and nobody had a big fight! But the home team won!!!

Crazy Weekend Weather

It was really weird to see snow in March! One person who loving the weather? Demon, of course! Snitch, our lab, was no where to be found! He was the smart dog staying in his house! Here's some photos of Demon in the storm:

Biology Final.....Spilled Coffee

Today I had my final. Instead of going to a learning center to take it, where the school usually has you take it, I chose instead to have mom's friend, Resa proctor it. It was a little tricky to think of a place to meet with free WiFi! But I will have to admit it was really nice to take my final in a coffee place!

I ended up with a 81% on the final and I had a 93% in the course. I'm still waiting for the final course grade, but I'm not too concerned with those grades!

During my test, my lovely older sister Megan decided to cause problems. She dumped half of her coffee on her light tan pants! Megan can be a klutz at times! When my test was over, I did see this HUGE stain on her pants. Well, hope they were not new!!!!

After today's freezing cold weather, I am counting down the days until we go on a nice WARM vacation!!!!

Happy Birthday, Whitney!

Today is Whitney's 9th birthday! What does she want to do for her birthday? Go see Twilight (again) and go ice skating. Whitney is a lot like Megan: she loves to shop and can be quite defiant at times. All last week she spent her time reading poems by Robert Frost and other authors. She is also into Helen Keller. She is, of course, into Hanna Montana and High School Musical. This week she pulled out the keyboard and decided to teach herself how to play. Except, she comes to somebody every two seconds saying "come here and listen," or "I need help." I think she learned this week that I have very little knowledge in piano! I'm sure by the end of the week, she will have a new obsession!

P.S. She says I never talk about her on the blog.....so I made sure to do a post ALL ABOUT HER!!!

Where is the time going?

Today I realized that I only have two weeks left of my biology course. It was surprising to me because I've really enjoyed this class. I'm really excited that I have another biology class after this one. I was really worried about this class, but I've enjoyed most of the content (minus the reproduction and genes).

We had guitar lessons today and had to run some errands. We got stuck in traffic today due to a wreck which basically ruined my morning. I was very excited to be home but then I had plenty of assignments due which meant no relaxing for me! I've been reading a lot of short stories in English and this week I'm studying Ernest Hemingway.

Whitney tried to talk me into buying High School Musical 3 for her, but I refused. She apparently sweet talked Megan into it because they left about an hour after we got home just for the movie. Megan spoils her way too much!

This morning I finished The Fellowship of the Rings so now I will be starting The Two Towers!!!

English & Games

This week has been filled with LOTS of reading and playing a Lewis and Clark game. For english this week, I have been reading books by Jack London and Stephen Crane. For the most part, the books are pretty good but I will probably never read these books again! I had already read The Red Badge of Courage and I thought it was pretty good and then I read The Fight, that was defintely weird. I then had to write on how it affected me....that was hard!

Last week we went to the university library to look at books. Whitney picked out a Lewis and Clark game and we played that on Sunday night. Ever since then, she can't seem to think about anything else. I was really surprised at how much she knew.....I think she knew more than me! That was scary!

In science this week, I am learning all about chromosomes and reproduction. What a blast!!!! Well, not really:).

Hallelujah!!!!

I passed my Geometry B final!!! I am very glad to be done with Geometry and can quite honestly say......hallelujah I am finished with that!!!

This class was difficult and it was a struggle to get through, but I'm glad that I pushed through and made it through the test. Now I'm off to more classes.....like English and Biology.

Wanting Warm Weather

I am really tired of the cold, gray days. I'm starting to wonder if the sun will ever come out. I have recently changed my mind.....I like spring a whole lot better than winter!

It was hard to get up yesterday and get started on school after a weekend off. Now I know why I started to take off the weekends! I knew it was going to be a long day when I started off my morning smacking my wrist into the bed. The only good thing that came out of my day was being done with school early....and I was even wasting my time just looking over my grades!

Today is going to be a much bigger day of school. I am also watching Jordann and Whitney while mom is in class today. They are already on each others nerves. I have found it easy to ignore most of their fight. Sometimes I will be interested to see what the big fight is about.....other times it's just a bunch of nonsense.

Whitney has already told me that she can't wait until Megan gets home because then she is in charge. I just let her to keep dreaming!

Whitney went to another guitar lesson today and enjoyed it very much. She actually thinks its funny how many different faces Jordann is able to give our guitar instructor.

Whitney Goes to Guitar Lessons

Yesterday was guitar lessons for Jordann and I and we had a visitor come with us. Whitney! Mom started classes at BSU so she wasn't able to stay home and watch Whitney. Whitney really wasn't looking forward to sitting through the lessons. She was surprisingly quiet! She had school work to work on, which she seemed to do through most of the lesson. Although, I'm not sure how she could focus on her work with Jordann's loud electric guitar and all of the distortion she was using.

After guitar when we walked out, Whitney could not believe how hard Jordann makes our instructor work. So, pretty much all the way to the library they were arguing back and forth whether or not Jordann was "sassy." That's when I'm glad I'm the driver and I don't have to pay too much attention to their constant bickering. That's when I turned up the Daughtry CD!

When we got home, Whitney and Jordann thought that since mom wasn't home there wasn't any school. Yeah right! They tried negotiating with me....but I wasn't going for it. They finished in about an hour....if that. I still don't know why they put up such a fuss when they finish so early. I think they do it just to make me mad!

Megan does not work this week, which is nice to have her home for when Jordann doesn't listen to me. Of course, I always have to go track down Megan (usually blasting out her eardrums listening to her mp3) so that she can deal with it. One thing for sure: it's probably a good thing Megan doesn't watch the little to often.....because she likes to ignore them. I always know that if it's quite in the house....they are up to no good!

Finals are exhausting

This week I am working on finishing up my Geometry B class. With that, I have to pass a proctored final in order to pass the class. One thing I've found with finals is: it's very exhausting! My final was at 10AM, so I pretty much spent my whole morning studying for one hour and getting ready to go. I spent an hour on the test....and I still have to go back! Another thing that I noticed while taking finals is that you are starving after the final. Very weird. Once I got home, I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat so I decided to play with a waffle recipe. All I did is take a basic waffle recipe and made a few changes: whole wheat flour, splenda, chocolate chips, and buttermilk (we've been without milk for a few days now...and we aren't doing too bad but we also have some soy milk!). I think everybody enjoyed it because when I came back they were gone!

After my long morning, I decided to take a deserved break. I went upstairs to watch T.V. I now realize why I don't watch any T.V. there is hardly anything on anymore. So I decided to watch what was on the DVR. With me, the kitties slept right beside me. They were awakened by Demon coming upstairs and eating their food....they were not thrilled by the uninvited guest! After that, I knew it was my cue to go downstairs and do some biology. I am only in my second week of biology, but so far I'm enjoying it. The teacher is so far pretty easy with her grading which is a plus.

My mom is heading back to school which means I'm back on babysitting duty next week. Mom will be gone quite a bit more this semester and busy as ever, so I may or may not see her! The little two are not looking forward to mom being back in school because that means dealing with me!

Tomorrow, I will spend some of my day getting ready for the second part of my Geometry final. Friday morning, I will be finishing up the test and then I will plan on taking the rest of the day off....after all it is my birthday!

Welcome 2009!!!

I'm excited to start blogging about my daily activities. I'm interested to see how I will keep this blog updated....as I tend to focus too much on school! My mom would really agree with me!

I tend to keep busy with school, animals, instant messaging, music, guitar, and making sure things are clean. I love playing guitar, if grades weren't important to me I would play guitar most of the day. I love all types of music, right now I'm into A Fine Frenzy, Footloose, Vivaldi, and Taylor Swift. One of my main goals for 2009 is to not be too picky about how clean a room is. I finally went and received my driver's license in December of '08.

I have an older sister, Megan who is in college. Last Friday, her car broke down and I ended up taking her to school. Megan seems to have LOTS of car troubles and it usually ends up with me and my dad going to the junk yard to go get the right parts and fix her car. Over the weekend, we went to Jalopy Jungle and we found a drill....which my dad was thrilled about! It is really weird to go through the junkyard and see all these cars torn apart, some of them didn't even have any major damage to them. For awhile my dream truck was a 1960s Chevy Truck, but after seeing Megan go through her car problems, I think I ought to look for a more reliable car! I guess I'm learning a lesson as Megan is!

My two little sisters enjoy trying to annoy everyone. Jordann loves to giggle and goof around. I usually find her enjoying the twilight series....she's read the books many times! Whitney is loving her new kittens, Calvin and Hobbs (she named them!). She spends a lot of her day watching over them like a hawk. She and Calvin are best buds!!!

We also have two dogs, a lab we named Snitch (who went to the vet today) and a Siberian Husky whose name is Demon. Both dogs' names describe them well!
